| "My
performance, not my personality, should be what counts."
That may be
true in an ideal world, but it doesn't always work in the real world. What
matter is: Do you have an excellent rapport with your boss?
Here are 7 tips to make
your boss happy with you:
1. Know
what your boss expects
Identify your
boss's top 3-4 values. What is important to him or her? This will enable
you to predict positively his or her reactions to your intentions or thoughts.
2. Avoid
being argumentative
When you're
criticized by your boss, avoid being argumentative even though you think
you're right.
3. Make
your boss look good
Make your
boss look good in the eyes of others, and you'll look good in the eyes
of your boss. Your job is to help your boss look good in front of others.
Cover for your boss when something goes wrong. |
 |
You
can start changing your relationship with your boss today. It doesn’t
matter if you worked with your bad boss 3 years or 3 days, you will learn
what it takes to make an impact. Even if you don’t currently work for a
bad boss but did in the past, you will gain the knowledge to deal effectively
with any future Tyrants that may come along. |
4. Be loyal
to your boss
The reaction
is, your boss will be loyal to you too. The more that your boss can see
that you are committed to his or her success, the more he or she will become
committed to your success. The better you do this, the more valuable you
are to your boss.
5. Always
have answers
Always have
answers as to what went wrong.
6. Ask for
more responsibilities
Often those
who ask for more responsibilities and then find a way to deliver, are ALWAYS
the first considered for raises, promotions, etc.
7. Bring
solutions to your boss
When possible,
bring your boss solutions - not just problems. Don't conceal problems.
